How to Prepare for Your First Tailoring Consultation

Know what to bring, what questions to ask, and how to communicate your preferred style before beginning your custom outfit.

Coming prepared to your first consultation makes the entire process smoother and helps us understand your style faster. If you have reference images of suits, kaftans, or details you like — lapel shapes, colors, or finishing touches — bring them along, even if they're just saved on your phone. Visual references communicate preferences far more precisely than words alone. Think ahead about the occasion the garment is for, including the time of day, venue, and season, since these all influence fabric weight and color recommendations. If the garment is for a group event like a wedding, it also helps to know in advance whether there's an existing color scheme or dress code to work around. Wear well-fitting, comfortable clothing to your measurement appointment, and if possible, wear the type of shoes you plan to pair with the finished garment, since footwear affects trouser length. Finally, come with questions — about fabric care, timelines, or fitting appointments — the more you ask up front, the fewer surprises later in the process.
